Twycross Zoo Policy on the Admission of
Registered
Assistance Dogs.
Twycross Zoo is committed to providing full access to all its visitors.
All amenities, enclosures and exhibits are accessible by wheelchair
and reasonable adjustments have been implemented to ensure that
the Zoo and its facilities are suitable for all.
Visitors with registered assistance dogs (pet dogs are not permitted
any where on site) are welcomed to Twycross Zoo, but due to the
requirements of the Zoo’s resident animals certain adjustments
must be made.
Dogs of any breed can frighten or antagonise some of our zoo animals
and because of this we must limit their access around the zoo. No
dogs must go inside any of the Primate Houses (i.e. Ape, monkey
and lemur houses), the Tropical House or the Elephant House and
they must keep their distance from the Asiatic Lion and Amur Leopard
enclosures. Dogs are also not permitted near the elephants during
elephant training. Please see the map overleaf.
We do appreciate that people will wish to see these animals, but
the primates and elephants can be viewed from outside.
If any other animals around Twycross Zoo are reacting adversely
to assistance dogs we ask that you move away from that house or
enclosure to allow them to calm down and to prevent violent display
or fights.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Notices:
Please note that dogs (except guide dogs) are not allowed
anywhere within the zoo, this includes the car park.
Car Park:
Car Parking is free of charge.
Disabled facilities:
Café, toilets and most animal houses are accessible by wheelchair.
Seeing eye dogs are permitted at the zoo, although there is no access
to the apes, elephants and large carnivores. There is no disabled
access to the inside of the lemur house.
