Information on Twycross Zoo’s Outreach Programme

The Zoo Outreach Programme is designed to bring a touch of the zoo to you. A trip to the zoo is an amazing experience for children and adults alike but sometimes the logistics prevent that possibility. This option allows your group access to the benefits of a session with our experienced and professional Education Staff without having to leave your base.

This programme is designed to take a few of our key teaching sessions out to schools and other groups across the community. It is run by highly experienced education professionals who arrive accompanied by a selection of our educational animals, artefacts or a slideshow.

We can provide sessions on a wide range of topics to fit with the national curriculum for science, geography and citizenship syllabi. Subjects you can choose range from ‘Animal Adaptations’ to ‘Classification’ and ‘Conservation and Endangered Species’. We also run sessions on Twycross Zoo History and the work the zoo carries out. If you have any special subjects in mind please ask the Education Department.

Who Will We Visit?
Twycross Zoo Outreach Programme is designed to come out to groups of all size and age (minimum age 5 years old) across the community. We have delivered sessions to all ages of school group, holiday playschemes, youth groups, Women’s Institute groups and many more.

How Does It Work?

For Schools.

The Zoo Outreach Bus arrives at your school anytime after 09.30. We can do a number of sessions through the day (maximum of 6) to fit around your timetable. All we need is a classroom!

The session provides an interactive experience during which the students will get to handle many of the animals we bring. Our animal collection includes mammals, reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates. Education Officers will make an appropriate selection of animals for the topic you require.

For Other Groups.

Let us know who you are and what kind of group you run. Then let us know what time you require us and we will try our best to accommodate you.

Is It Safe?!

Yes! All our animals are regularly tested to make sure no nasty germs come into your school and in accordance with Health and Safety all the students’ hands are sanitised at the end of the session. All our animals are friendly and used to being handled.

How Much Is It?

Generally prices are £200 full day and £120 half day however final price will depend on number of sessions required.
