As at 21st April 08, we are looking for:
Keepers are offered pay based on level of competence between £282
and £323 per week, 33 days holiday, uniform, 5% pension contribution
and the possibility of on-site accommodation.
Keeper (Birds & Tropical section)
Applicants should have some experience of caring for domestic or
exotic animals and demonstrate a responsible and enthusiastic attitude
to the work. Already having achieved an animal-related qualification
would be ideal but this can be a Trainee Keeper role.
Keeper (Old World Primates section)
Applicants should have some experience of caring for domestic or
exotic animals and demonstrate a responsible and enthusiastic attitude
to the work. Already having achieved an animal-related qualification
would be ideal but this can be a Trainee Keeper role.
Keeper (African Apes)
Primarily working with the Bonobos, but also assisting with Chimps
and Gorillas. Applicants must have substantial experience as a zoo
keeper and ideally will already have achieved an animal-related
qualification.
Keeper 1 (Elephants)
We have 2 vacancies for Elephant Keepers to join our existing team
of 3 caring for our Asian elephants - a group of 4 females with
the youngest born here at Twycross. Another of the 4 has been artificially
inseminated and the calf is expected in summer 2009. We have a close
contact approach to elephant management and train them to obey commands,
enabling healthcare maintenance to be carried out. Our training
regime is calm and consistent and the right keeper will demonstrate
self-confidence without arrogance. We need a keeper who has experience
of “hands on” management of elephants.
Keeper 2 (Elephants)
The second vacancy can accommodate a trainee keeper. Some previous
experience with elephants would be ideal, but professional experience
with horses, including cleaning, handling and general care could
also be a good background to have. Applicants must have experience
of working in a professional collection of animals.
Deputy Section Head for New World
Primates £18,252 pa.
Needed to run the Section on any day that the Section Head is absent,
ensuring that the team remains effective. As well as having practical
and relevant experience of professional animal keeping, applicants
must be able to demonstrate a substantial working knowledge of the
natural history and management of at least one New World primate.
Also required is the ability to run a section using appropriate
supervisory skills.
Section Head (Old World Primates)
£19,552 pa. The Section Head
is a “hands on” Keeper as well as supervising the other
Keepers on the Section. “People Responsibilities” include
organising rotas, holiday requests and carrying out appraisals.
“Animal Responsibilities” include ensuring all the Section’s
animals are kept to the Zoo’s required standards and making
informed decisions about animal management when necessary.
Applicants must be able to demonstrate a substantial working knowledge
of the natural history and management of at least one species on
the Section and show the ability to run a section using appropriate
supervisory skills.
Assistant Chef Competitive
salary. Do you want to work at the Zoo as Assistant Chef
and assist the F & B management in providing an efficient and
profitable catering service to the Zoo’s visitors and staff?
Your responsibilities would include motivating and supervising staff,
creative cooking from fresh ingredients, preparation of other hot
and cold food and ensuring all protocols and procedures are followed
and recorded. You must hold relevant catering qualifications and
display drive and commitment for the Zoo’s F & B development.
You will also demonstrate effective staff management skills with
a firm and fair approach. Work will be on a shift rota of 5 days
in 7, including weekend work.
