To arrange a study at Twycross you need to:
- First read the excellent research information on the BIAZA website
www.biaza.org.uk
- Have an idea for a study. Have done some reading and have a
good plan of what you would like to do.
- Contact the research co-ordinator by post or by email well in
advance of the planned study, to discuss your ideas. If they are
not entirely possible we can help with suggestions for refinements.
- Arrange a visit if possible. You will find it helpful to see the
facilities and meet the keepers.
- Once you have finally decided on a study, send a completed research
application form. (Click here)
- Wait for us to contact you. Approval should take just a week or
so if the above process has been followed, but may take several
weeks. We can then arrange a start date that suits you and the keepers.
Once you have finished you will be asked to give a short summary
of the research you have carried out and provide us with
a copy of the finished research project when you complete
it, with unrestricted copyright. This will be held in our library
for use by staff and other students. You will always be credited
if it is referenced.
Twycross zoo must be credited in the main body of your report and
any subsequent publications. Co-authorship of papers may be requested
if the zoo staff make a significant academic contribution.
Entrance to the zoo is free for students while they are carrying
out research and for preliminary visits, as long as these have been
organised with the research co-ordinator in advance. We can help
with advice on finding local accommodation if necessary but it is
limited.
Please read through the application form and guidelines carefully
before completing the form. If there are any questions you can email
us prior to sending your form in. The included guidelines enable
you and the keepers to get the most out of the time you will spend
here. Please be aware that while we are keen to encourage research
here, the every day duties of the keepers come first.
