Information
on Teaching Resources from Twycross Zoo
Twycross Zoo Education Department produces a variety of high quality
material to support teachers through animal and conservation based
subjects. Our resources cater for every age group from preschool
to 16+ classes ranging from simple colouring packs and trails to
more complex information (see individual pack details for more information).
What Subjects Do They Cover?
Each pack contains different information (see over for full details).
However, most packs have sections on a variety of animal life and
conservation sections. The CD-Rom Packs fit in very well with biology,
geography and citizenship/PSHE curricula. Information is aimed at
teachers of children from primary age through to A-Level age as
the information guides you from the simple to the complex. The Colouring
Packs and Zoo Trails are aimed straight at the pupil and are an
easy reproducible resource for teachers to give straight to their
pupils.
Habitats CD-Rom:
This
pack includes 8 separate teachers’ packs. It consists of an
introduction to habitats and then individual packs devoted to Grasslands,
Deserts, Forests, Wetlands, Polar Regions, Mountains and Oceans
and Coasts. Each pack contains information on the world distribution
of that habitat, animals from that habitat, food chains, human impacts,
threats, conservation and worksheets.
The World Around Us CD-Rom:
This
pack includes 5 separate teachers packs which aim to cover all sorts
of information on the natural world. They include how nature uses
colours and patterns (A Splash Of Colour), how we classify the animal
world (Classification), the world of primates (Close Cousins), information
on the web of life, what humans are doing and conservation (Living
With Life), and a look at the world of the creepy crawlies (Minibeasts).
Animal A TO Z’S CD-Rom:
This pack includes over 30 animal A to Z’s and an animal photo
gallery. Each is an individual factsheet in its own right including
information such as subspecies, habitats they live in, age span,
diet, social structure, reproduction, young and their life in zoos.
Animals covered include lions, giraffe, tigers, camels, elephants,
reptiles, birds, apes, amphibians, marsupials, reptiles, invertebrates,
fish, monkeys, and many more. Also contained is a reproducible Animal
Photo Gallery.
Interactive CD:
The
Twycross Zoo CD–Rom is an excellent way for children to find
out about zoo animals. The CD-Rom contains information on various
species at the zoo. The type of information contained within the
fact sheets varies from geographical distribution, habitats, diet,
population and various other facts.
Colouring Packs:
Our colouring pack consists of a number of animal out lines for
children to colour in.
