Temporary Work

We employ people to help us on a temporary and casual basis through our peak visitor season of Easter, weekends, Bank Holidays, school holidays and some weekdays. A flexible attitude is essential and all seasonal staff must be able to work on all Easter, May and August bank holidays.

Full training is given and (apart from Retail) no previous experience is necessary. Rates of pay are:

• £5.00 ph at age 16 & 17
• £5.41 at age 18+
• £5.98 ph for age 22+

Minimum age is 16 for Health and Safety reasons. There is no maximum age.

There are four possible jobs for seasonal staff and the core duties are these:

• Food & Beverage Assistants keep all our visitors refreshed with food and drink and work at table clearing, preparing food, serving and operating the tills in our 4 cafés and 5 kiosks.

• Cooks work at preparing hot and cold food and cooking from scratch (yes, real cooking from ingredients!) in our cafés.

• Rangerslook after our visitors by guiding them as they park their cars and go through the pay entrance, providing information about Gift Aid and the Zoo, operating the tills and keeping the place litter-free.

• Cleansing Assistants keep the visitors’ hygiene facilities clean and tidy. We have 6 separate blocks scattered around the Zoo.

• Retail Assistants work in our 2 busy gift shops selling furry toys, rubber snakes, magnets and all the other great gifts by pricing up, shelf filling and operating the tills. Previous customer service experience is essential for working in this job.

All the jobs require people who are focused on looking after our visitors and ensuring that they all have the best possible time at the Zoo.
